Overview

On our 4 day Nyiragongo hiking safari, summit to Mountain Nyiragongo - a sensational landmark found in the Democratic Republic of Congo. It last erupted in 2002 and since then, it has been gentle. Atop the crater floor at its summit lays a lake of bubbling magma that is surrounded by walls of earth and solid larva ash. It is roughly 600ft wide and 60ft high.

As it boils vigorously, it produces roaring waves and a bright fiery glow that lights up the scene at night. Its energy and latent danger showcases an impressive display of the power of nature. It is such a moving spectacle, the type you would want to behold forever. Ironically, the temperature at the top is very cold. This is because a cloud swirls around the rim of the crater. To this effect, sleeping bags are available for hire in case you need extra comfort.

Day 1

Arrival in Kigali – Rwanda

Arrival at Kigali International Airport. After accomplishing all the immigration procedures, you will be received by your tour guide who will transfer you to your hotel in Kigali for overnight. Upon arrival at the hotel, check in followed by a brief safari briefing.

Day 2

Kigali to Goma – Congo:

Morning breakfast, check out and enjoy a Kigali City Tour with a visit to the Genocide Memorial Museum at Gisozi. Lunch break and thereafter, transfer to Goma. Sit still in preparation for the Nyiragongo hike the next day.

Day 3

Goma to Nyiragongo Summit

Nyiragongo volcano stands at an elevation of 3,470 m (11,380 ft) above sea level. Its main crater area is about 2kms wide. Atop the crater floor at its summit lays a lake of bubbling magma that is surrounded by walls of earth and solid larva ash. It is roughly 600ft wide and 60ft high. Steep trek for 6-7 hrs up from 1989 m to 3470 m. Enjoy lava viewing at sunset. Overnight on top of the volcano rim.

Day 4

Nyiragongo Volcano to Kigali & Departure:

Enjoy a morning lave lake viewing. Thereafter, descend down the volcano and transfer via Goma to Kigali with drop off at the airport in time for your departure flight.
